Are Your Dogs Having Trouble Sleeping?

Okay guys. I don’t know what is going on lately. I have not been able to sleep well AT ALL. Ordinarily, I have zero problems falling asleep. Usually nodding off in the middle of my mom telling me I "need" to do something and when I would fall asleep, I would stay asleep. But now, every little sound wakes me up. What's up with that?

I mean hellooooo, I'm part bulldog for goodness' sakes so you know napping is hard-coded into my DNA. And I know what you're thinking. Dilla, you're also part Boston Terrier so you might consider yourself CEO of Naps, but that crazy and fun Boston energy has to manifest itself somehow. But you would be wrong, because in all of my 11 young years of life, I've perfected the art of the sleep.

My favorite sleeping position is Upward-facing dog. What's yours?

One time my mom counted I took 17 naps in a single day. She even noted how I could literally fall asleep anywhere. Whether on the bed or in between couch cushions, on top of my dad's feet underneath his desk, in the middle of the kitchen or right on a sidewalk, dreamville was never far from my mind. So while my Boston Terrier side loves to play hard, getting sleep has always been at the top of my to do list. Now, you can imagine, these last couple of weeks have really been testing my patience because I've been missing my precious sleep sessions.

Dreaming of that great nap I took that one time...seems like forever ago!

My mom recently wrote about her worries of being a pawrent to senior dogs, but her anxieties, while warranted (love you mom), are not what's waking me up. I thought as you grow older your hearing was one of the first things to go. Well not mine apparently. My ears are super sensitive now and every little sound grabs my attention. If I hear shoes shuffling about, cars driving by, hoomans laughing on the TV, pages turning in a book or just my sister Willow yawning, I'm popping up like somebody yelled “treat”. And we're in LA, so I have to worry about earthquakes! Last weekend that 4.5 tremor rattling my beautiful city of angels woke me up something fierce. My mom had to rub my belly the rest of the night to get me to stop barking and fall back asleep. Ugh!!!

Thank goodness my pawrents noticed I was having trouble sleeping, so they started checking all the normal things hoomans check. Thankfully nothing life-threatening and no crazy sleeping disorders here, only stress. What am I stressed about? I think it's because of the shorter walks Willow and I have been taking, due to the bad air quality in California as a result of the massive fires.

So what do you do when your pup is stressed and cannot sleep throughout the night? My pawrents made me YouTube video and Spotify playlist to help me sleep. I couldn't wait to share it with you, just in case your furbabies are experiencing the same thing. We all know 2020 has been reason enough to take more naps.

Relax Your Dog with Calming Music

When a long walk, big bowl of food and belly rubs don't help your pup sleep, calming music for pets can turn sleepless nights into an all out snoozefest.

Turns out Willow loves the calming music just as much as I do. We think you will too! 😴

About the author: Willow, a Bichon Frise mix with eyes that’ll melt your heart is a daddy’s girl. She is also the first in line to go walking, first to get food, first for kisses and cuddles. Whatever it is, Willow likes to be FIRST. She spent most of her life living in shelters so things haven't always been easy. But now, she gets to write about dog fashion, her new family and cool lil brother Dilla. Cool as a cucumber and named after the late amazing record producer J Dilla, Dilla is a Boston Terrier and French Bulldog mix. Admittedly, he hasn't always been a fan of dressing up, but Dilla has come to dig only dog clothes that are comfortable and functional. Hoodies and sweaters are his favorite!
