Itβs always important to know your dogβs measurements while shopping for dog clothes, as apparel sizes vary from brand to brand and style to style.
Measuring your dog is the best way to know your dog's costume size, ensure aΒ proper fit and keep your pup safe and comfortable.
Here are three simple measurements you should know before purchasing any outfit for your pet.

3 Steps to Measure Your Dog

Measure
Chest
Measure the girth, the widest part around your dog'sΒ chest, right behind the front legs. Consider adding an inch or two for breathing room.

Measure
Back Length
Measure from the base of the collar to the base of the tail.

Measure
Neck
Measure around the neck, right in the middle where a collar would normally sit. Consider adding an inch for comfort.
Helpful Tips
As you can see, taking your dog's measurements is quite easy once you know how. So what's next? Purchasing that cool costume of course! And because we want you to enjoy dressing up your dog as much as we do, we put together a list of things to keep in mind while you wait for that awesome new outfit to arrive.
Maximum Comfort
Add a couple of inches to the chest and back length measurements to ensure your pup is nice and comfy.
Size Up
If your pup's measurements fall between sizes, order the larger size instead of the smaller one.
Breed Specific
Breeds like French & English Bulldogs have bulkier frames, so consider a size up to make sure they're not stuffed in their new outfit.
Other Styles
Consider some clothes and costumes may need additional measurements i.e. width of dog's head, head circumference, length of sleeves etc. so double check you have all the measurements needed.
First Time Dressing Up Your Dog?
Treats, belly rubs and praise are the way to a pup's heart when trying on doggy clothes for the first time. The goal is to give them a positive experience while wearing their new outfit and not force your dog into something that causes anxiety.
Always be patient with your furbaby and if they just decide they rather rip up their brand new costume and use it as a chew toy, maybe dog accessories like a bandana or bow tie would be more suitable for their personality. π
Dressing up your pup should be fun so make sure their new out is just the right size!
